Strolling Through Niagara-on-the-Lake

Niagara-on-the-Lake is absolutely beautiful and to think we only got our feet wet in exploring just the shopping district.

We walked around and popped our heads into all the little boutiques and artisan shops.  We had a late lunch at Corks Winebar and Eatery Great service and I had the most delicious butternut squash ravioli and Bill enjoyed an indulgent serving of manicotti with a thick slice of garlic bread.

The landscaping all around is gorgeous as you can see from the photos and this time of year is particularly beautiful with all the leaves changing.

Before heading back to Windsor, we stopped in at a lovely local French-inspired cafe called Café Lumiere for a latte and a sweet pastry - a crumbly apple lemon bar.

A little slice of heaven at Café Lumière

Niagara-on-the-Lake was a wonderful way to end our anniversary/mini-break - I am grateful for being able to come here with Bill. I am looking forward to another visit in the future together - especially as theatre lovers, the Shaw Festival is on our list.

Life slows down here and I'm all for being part of it.

📷2026 Outdoor Accessibility Fest-For-All highlights.

🪄It was another chance for WMC members to be out and about in the community. This time we were in Cottam, Ontario.  Thank you to Essex County Accessibility Advisory Committee for having us!

A great day for performers to share their unique talents and create magical memories for everyone.

I really enjoyed connecting with so many new people and organizations that are providing such amazing services for individuals and their families.  I was actually able to stop by the EMS booth to just share some personal stories and thank them for the services they do - without them, I dare to even think of the chaos our healthcare system would be in.

Exploring Museum London

This was our first time checking out Museum London in the busy city of London, Ontario. It's about a two hour drive (pending on traffic) from Windsor.

It is also home to more than 5,500 artworks and nearly 50,000 historical artifacts. The gallery has 3 floors of exhibits, including a quaint cafe on the main level and gift shop.

These particular exhibits showcased were thought-provoking and quite visually stunning. I love the way a few of these were curated to not only display art but tell such important stories that impact our identities and lives today.

👉"All Around Me, All Around You" - Bernice Vincent

👉The Elusive Dancer - Marcio Melo

👉"you don't understand, sharing is the law, the land owns itself"

-James Nicholas and Sandra Semchuk

👉Cloudburst - Billy Bert Young.

👉Word Search - Jamelie Hassan

👉Tropi-X Exhibit: "Proteja oque nos resta"
which translates to "Protect what we have left" - Bruno Smoky

These were a few of my favourites and you can find more information about them at the link below.

Many more exhibits are coming and it would be fun to go back for another day of exploration.

Reflections of 2025

As the countdown begins, I made a little collage to reflect back on this year. Intentionally, I took flight more often from social media and begun to cultivate a new existence outside of screens.

It wasn't about the gigantic steps in 2025...it was teensy tiny ones with a lot of fumbling along the way.

The hats that I wore in work and play altered in unexpected ways, but I remained what many still call me ("a muse").

My little support nook was of course an extra heartbeat to keep momentum when life got really rough (thank you)and I hope our connections continue to grow in 2026.

17th Anniversary Dinner at Tabouli by Eddy's

Dinner at Tabouli by Eddy's
BBQ platter: hot rolls, fattoush salad & hummus, kaftas
beef shish kabobs, chicken shish tawooks
Dessert: baklava and cheesecake

Lebanese cuisine is quite popular here in Windsor-Essex County and it's one of our favourite cuisines to enjoy when dining out or even grabbing take-out. After a busy day, we headed off  for our 17th anniversary at Tabouli by Eddy's.

The atmosphere was really inviting the moment we stepped into the restaurant. The colours and decor pieces really match the relaxed yet elegant vibe. I would suggest bringing an extra sweater if you are eating indoors as it was a little chilly inside or opt for enjoying some patio dining.

One aspect that was really apparent was how well-trained the staff were from anticipating specific customer needs to keeping our waters refilled before we even needed to call anyone over for a top up.

Our waiter was friendly and the timing of the appetizers to our entrees flowed so well. Sometimes you just get everything laid out on the table and feel overwhelmed, not here. It is all the little touches that really make a difference in service and they truly excel in this area.

The menu was varied so whether you're a hungry meat lover, a vegetarian or somewhere in-between, there were tons of entrees to choose from or you could get a platter that would yield lots of leftovers.

The food was delicious and presented elegantly. There was more than enough for us which meant leftovers for the next day and no extra cooking for me. They do not shy away from offering generous portion sizes.

We had the bbq platter with sautéed vegetables. The pita chips definitely had a kick of spice but I enjoyed dipping them in the hummus. The meat was really tender and flavourful. They also had the best fattoush salad.

To our surprise, baklava and their decadent cheese cake were compliments of Eddy, the owner. A sweet end to our meal.

We'll definitely be back.

Let's Taco 'Bout It: The Grand Cantina

After a very busy day, I had the sudden craving for tacos...We all know that when a craving hits, it must be satisfied!

Passing by many times, but never stopping in, it was finally the night we would go to The Grand Cantina;  a wonderful Mexican-inspired restaurant in the heart of Walkerville, here in Windsor, Ontario Canada.

Opening the door, you are hit with vibrant colours from all angles and there is a real warmth to the space.  There is a lot of beautiful Mexican folk art decor too.

Although we didn't make a reservation, we lucked out as they always save a few tables for walk-ins. Our server was very friendly and the menu had a lot of variety, along with the drink selection, if you partake in boozy beverages.

There were so many taco options to choose from. I had a little anxiety about ordering anything that might be too spicy as that is always an issue with certain cuisine and I wouldn't be able to enjoy.

We decided to go for the Taco Tuesday - Mix and Match your pack, which was the following:

Carnitas - shredded smoked pork, pico de gallo, lettuce and salsa verde.

Los Pollos Hermanos - citrus brined grilled chicken, pico de gallo and avocado.

Veganville - tempura fried smoked tofu, pico de gallo, pickled red onion, vegan aioli and corn chip dust.

Bill had never had a churro before, that was our chosen dessert.

The tacos were so delicious and flavourful. The tortillas were filled generously. Everything tasted so fresh and our bellies were happy. Churros were soft and tender on the inside with a nice crispy crunch on the outside, dipped generously in the house sweet salted caramel sauce.

I think we've found our new favourite spot for tacos! Oh and if they are full and you didn't make a reservation, no worries, they also got you covered with pick-up or delivery options.

Raise Your Voice: ACT Presents The Price of Freedom at the Capitol Theatre

Cast of Price of Freedom

The Price of Freedom is a soul-affirming play written by Carlos Anthony, directed by Arts Collective Theatre, Chris Rabideau in collaboration with the Amherstburg Freedom Museum, celebrating its 50th anniversary. I had the pleasure of attending on the evening of "ACT Gives Back" at the Capitol Theatre.

The story revolves around John Anderson (played by Carlos Anthony), a freedom seeker who is accused of killing a bounty hunter in self-defence. He is put on trial for a gruelling legal battle that challenges not only the complex legal system but the inherent systematic injustices that painfully exist and undoubtedly leave deep wounds.

Highlights for me:

👉First and foremost, Carlos Anthony. You can tell that this portrayal of John Anderson is more than just reading words on a paper to memorize, it’s an opportunity to find his strength within and truly pour his heart out to the audience. This is very impactful throughout the play, especially as he is faced to relive and retell the traumatic moments in court.

👉Fight scene – (Bill Dileva – Diggs/Carlos Anthony- John Anderson). The battle between Anderson and Diggs is intense and is a pivotal moment with the guidance of Fight Coach, Jackson R.R. Balint.  Diggs is played wonderfully by Bill Dileva, as he exudes a dominant portrayal on stage of a slave catcher with a cackling laugh that echoes the room to gives chills.

👉The heartfelt moment between mother and son. Shelly Davis plays John’s mother and her uplifting words and unwavering love showed how one’s strength can push us onward despite hardships.

👉Court scene - the battle of logic vs the human condition. Samuel Freeman (Jordan Youseef) as defense lawyer and  Mr. Oswald Grant (Robin Swainson) as prosecutor, gave such strong performances presenting their cases.

👉Overseer’s Wife (Cristina Orlando) – an explosive performance that commanded the stage, portraying a rentlessly cruel woman confronting one of her slaves.

👉The music – composed by Ian Smith.  There is so much emotional depth felt from the music, particularly during the train station scene that that has a haunting historical presence, especially with the percussion work from Teajai Travis.

👉The statement of “you people” that is referenced in the play highlights the pitiful treatment and belief of unworthiness and undermining human dignity. It invokes feelings of anger and pain. So, whether you are familiar with John Anderson’s journey to freedom and his legal case which was a defining historical moment in Canada, this is a story you want to hear by all of these passionate performers.

It is one that makes you reflect on the past, the present climate we are in, and of course, what may hold for the future.

Freedom is like oxygen. We all deserve to breathe.
