He's No Dummy: Terry Fator Performs at Caesars Windsor

On Friday, April 14th, at 8 pm, it was a packed house at Caesars Windsor as America’s Got Talent and Vegas showstopper comedic ventriloquist and singer, Terry Fator and his plethora of puppets took the stage for their “On the Road Again” tour.

Terry is known for having a lot of puppets in his show. Walter T. Airdale, is a country music sensation who forgets how many wives he has, while the sassy, Vikki, the Cougar is too hot to handle, and leave it to the Latin Lover, Fernando V. Francisco to give Ricky Martin a run for his money.

We also say “high” to Terry’s neighbour, Duggie Scott Walker, who you’ll need to have a shot every time he says DUDE.  Put on your blues suede shoes and meet Maynard Thompkins, the Elvis Impersonator, who doesn’t know a single Elvis tune and hates to be touched.  Finally, we cannot forget the lovable Winston, the Impersonating Turtle, who clearly steals the show with his impressions.  Oh and of course, there are several special guests too, but you’ll have to see the show to find out more.

Terry’s not afraid to toe the line with pushing the comedy boundaries and neither are his puppets. A lot of the material is definitely for mature audiences and for those who are wide open to commentary of the current times.  Whether the jokes have a political, religious, or sexual spin, you’ll have a ball.  The movement of “#Metoo” turns promiscuous as Vicki proclaims “Pound Me Too”, while Duggie’s “This Bud’s for you” is really about cannabis.  Don’t blame Terry though, blame his puppets – as they have minds of their own.

Overall, the show was fun to attend with my husband and a great opportunity to visit Caesars once again, after a long hiatus with the pandemic foiling a lot of our concert experiences.  A huge thanks to Steve and Donna, who graciously offered us some extra tickets they had for the show.

Performing is hard work, no matter what kind of entertainment you’re involved with, and so Terry didn’t disappoint. We laughed a lot and in the end, that’s all that matters. Terry is ridiculously talented not just as a ventriloquist but his singing chops are note-worthy too. We're sending him and his puppets lots of love as they pack up their bags and go On The Road Again.

Visit Terry's site to learn more about him and all his puppets, and see where you can catch him next!

New Years Eve 2020

In every song, I can feel an emotion and in every emotion, I can hear a song.

Tonight is another nudge to remind me of this, as we head into 2021.

The ups and downs, the highs and lows, and all the unexpected thrills and chills that we go through, brings us back to the simple notion of a little thing we call life!

Happy New Year everyone!

Here are a few highlights below to enjoy of the little show we put on last night online to support some of our very talented performing artists in Windsor-Essex County.

I'll see you back in January for more musings.

That's a Wrap: A Virtual Holiday Celebration

A special thank you to Windsor Local (written by Laryssa Brooks) for mentioning Nuvo Entertainment in this article and spreading the word on our show!

https://www.thewindsorlocal.ca/news/business/santa-goes-virtual-for-a-pandemic-christmas-in-windsor-essex

So this was me, Melfy the Elf, last night getting dressed, as I would be performing in our Virtual Santa Magic Show! I am usually behind the camera, but on Christmas Eve, Santa calls the shots!

This was one of the letters we received from a few sweet kids who watched the show.

Finally, I'd like to wish my blog followers a very Merry Christmas/Happy Holiday/or just overall good wishes if you don't celebrate at all!  Please stay safe and healthy. If you must go out, wear your mask - and wear it properly! Navigating Covid-19 has been a challenge on so many levels, but by setting aside the urge to engage in defiant behaviour, this will help slow the spread down in our community and hopefully elsewhere too.  As I write this, we are heading for a more serious lockdown.

All Fired Up: Flame Throwers Take Over Fringe – 2019 Windsor Fringe Festival Review

The Fringe Festival took over Windsor, Ontario this past week and on one of those lovely days, we caught another awesome performance. This time it was Toronto-duo; the Flame Throwers, featuring Karl and The Prodigy.

This busker-style show was definitely like a buffet, it had a little bit of everything for patrons to enjoy.  I enjoyed the dead-pan humour and there was a lot of variety in musical choices to rev up the crowd.  It also had some fun audience interaction, one bit involving hand sanitizer, a marker, an innocent audience member, and juggling pins!

What was most impressive was Karl’s ability to be on a unicycle while solving a Rubik’s cube AND rapping to the trend-setting Flobot’s “Handlebars” song.

A rather tense moment was the chainsaw juggling bit, which thankfully didn’t have anyone cut up into pieces!

Kyle definitely stands out as a performer with his talents of juggling and balancing objects, whether that’s with balls, Rubik’s cubes, clubs, knives, or fire torches.

Recipe: How To Keep A Magician Fed For Days

Although magicians don’t always share secrets with their audience, I’m going to let you in on a recipe for Shepherd’s Pie that you’ll want to tell everyone about!

We lead busy lives and if you’re a professional magician, the last thing you want is to fumble while dazzling your audience with a card trick or feeling fuzzy-minded performing a spectacular illusion. It takes passion for the craft, skill and countless hours of practice to perfect the art of magic.  Trust me, I know, as I have been with my magical man for almost a decade now.

Creating balanced meals that will fuel your body is important and so this is the version I do. It’s healthy, fairly simple to make and lasts for several days in the fridge. Of course,  you can tweak it to meet your culinary tastes and dietary requirements.

INGREDIENTS:
  • 4-5 medium potatoes, peeled or unpeeled (whatever you like) and then quartered with a knife.
  • 2 cups (or more!) of assorted vegetables—I use a standard frozen vegetable mix often, as it’s more cost effective. You can use fresh veggies, but you will need to saute those separately in another pan.
  • 1 1/2 lbs of ground beef, pork, turkey, veal, or chicken. Whatever is on sale, that’s the meat of choice for this dish. *Vegetarians/Vegans – you can of course use veggie/vegan meat replacement and just follow the instructions as you normally would to cook it.
  • Seasonings of choice. Ex. oregano, basil, garlic, curry, turmeric, chives, parsley, sage, etc...

WHAT TO DO:

1 Boil the potatoes: Place washed, peeled (or unpeeled, if you like the skin on) and quartered potatoes in a large pot and cover with enough water.  Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer, and cook until tender (about 20 minutes). Use a timer.

2.  In a frying pan, add your meat of choice and cook it up (you don’t want to see ANY pink my non-veggie friends!) Make sure to add whatever sauce and seasonings you want.

3. Revisit your mash potatoes. Use a fork to pierce for tenderness. You want them nice and soft so they will be easy to mash. When the potatoes are done cooking, remove them from the pot, drain the water, and place them into a bowl. Add butter or margarine, any seasonings of choice, and then mash away with a fork or potato masher until they are the consistency you want.  Set aside.

4. Preheat your oven to 400°F.  Wait for that oven beeeeeeeeep!

5.  Get out a large baking casserole dish (approx 8 x13), and pour the meat mixture on the bottom. Add a heaping amount of frozen veggies or your mixture of sauteed vegetables. Then spread the mashed potatoes evenly on top.  *Feel free to grate your favourite cheese or cheese alternative, if you’re looking for a richer cheesy potato flavour once it finishes cooking.

6. Bake in the oven and cook for approximately 30 minutes. I like to set my oven to broil for the last few minutes to get the potatoes a little extra brown.

7. Take out the dish WITH oven mitts and let cool down for a couple minutes. Cut into pieces and serve!

Straight out of the oven!

Stratford Trip

Bill had a gig up in Stratford yesterday and so I came along. He mentioned we would get to go to Fellini's Restaurant again, so how could I say no? :)

We had a delicious lunch! I love the atmosphere, as it reminds me of many New York-style restaurants that I visited many years ago. The service at Fellini's is always top-notch too. If you have never been here, I would highly recommend it. If you are going for dinner though, make reservations, as they get really busy!

Afterwards, I just took a walk around and did a little window shopping, while Bill went off to perform.

Nuvo Entertainment At Stouffville Strawberry Festival 2015

Bill performed once again at the wonderful Stouffville Strawberry Festival! I came along for the trip and actually suggested that we stay over in Guelph the night before, so we wouldn't have to get up at 6 am and drive for several hours. Good move because we were well-rested for a rather unpredictable day of stormy weather and unusually cold temperatures for this time of year!

Unfortunately, I didn't get a lot of pictures of all the festivities this time around because it was SO cold that I just wanted to huddle under a blanket to keep warm.

Anyhow, enjoy these photos and for all your entertainment needs, make sure to check out: www.nuvoentertainment.com
