Not fooling us: Penn and Teller perform at Caesars Windsor

We went to see Penn & Teller at Caesars Windsor. Dating a performer, Friday/weekend outings are last minute because he is usually booked for gigs.

Anyhow, we caught a cool 80's band at Cosmo's before the show. My retro heart!! <3

Then it was off to see Penn & Teller. Getting mezzanine seats worked out because a. they were cheap and b. super comfy!

No photos or videos were allowed during the performance, so this was prior
to the show when people were just getting their seats.

I'll be honest, we were both not very impressed with this show. They started out strong with a fun inflatable bit, but then it went downhill fast. The performances we saw before at Caesars were much better choreographed. This felt sloppy and rushed at times. Lots of audience participation, but that didn't change our minds.

Teller was amusing, and his skill is definitely awesome, but again, something was missing. There were too many card tricks in the performance and a few tricks seemed to lack a logical ending. Staying optimistic for a kick-ass finish, we were let down with such a weak finale called the "Love Ritual" card trick that involved every patron, but sadly didn't end up working for everyone.

Penn also felt more vibrant in the past. Sure he's touring and probably exhausted, but "fool us" into thinking you're the life of the party on stage. That's your job. I felt his energy was lack-luster, despite his excessive talking. lol Seeing his weight loss in person was even more shocking than viewing photos of him online. I realize he slimmed down for health reasons, but I gotta say I miss jovial "chunky" Penn.

Highlights though were their new password prediction, the nail gun (one lady a short distance from us was yelling out loud because I think she was so freaked out!), their version of the light/heavy trick, the human blindfold and Teller's artistic shadow routine.

Once the show was done, the line up for the meet & greet was huge! It was very strange that Penn split up from Teller because that meant people would have to wait in-line twice. I'm not sure who had that bright idea. Although Bill did want to get their latest book signed, and also show them his foot-twisting trick, it just wasn't in the cards this time!

Penn and Teller Performing At Caesars Windsor: Bill Nuvo's Birthday Gift

Bill's birthday is coming up on Sunday, so what better gift to get a magician than to see other magicians whom he highly respects!

Penn and Teller are coming to Caesars Windsor in June!

Happy birthday, I love you!

Erasure: Sent you money, sent you flowers, could worship you for hours

I AM GOING TO SEE...

 ERASURE!!!

This was taken in 2005, when I went with my mom to see Erasure in Toronto
at Massey Hall for the Nightbird Tour!

It was a toss-up between seeing Erasure in September or waiting for VNV Nation in December (which is actually very close to my birthday-hint hint hint!!). However, weighing the pros and cons, Erasure won out. Tickets were not too badly priced and I've been working my tail off, so I think I deserve something special. I am super excited about seeing them for the second time now! I realize that Andy Bell probably won't be prancing around in sequin tops and glittery underwear, but i'm sure the show will still be amazing!

They have so many wonderful songs that pull on my heart strings or just make me want to get up and dance; Make Me Smile (Come up and see me), A Little Respect, Oh L'Amour, Always, Solsbury Hill (Peter Gabriel cover) and the list goes on. No matter what though, I Bet You're Mad At Me remains my absolute favourite. Everything from the lyrics to the simplistic sound to the intense emotion, I remember when it first came out, I made my parent's ears bleed because I kept the song on repeat playing in my bedroom. LOL I guess that's just another "Melissa quirk."

Theatre Alive: Run For Your Wife

I had the pleasure to go see a production from Theatre Alive here in Windsor. They put on a great show called "Run For Your Wife" by Ray Cooney and directed by Sarah Fitzgerald, which William got us tickets to see.

Overall, it was very witty with quite an entertaining and lively cast. Sometimes the British accents were a little mismatched, but not a big deal at all since each character really took on their role with charm and enthusiasm. The atmosphere was cozy and intimate too. You could clearly see the stage and all the little details, like the facial expressions of a character that you may miss in a larger setting.

There was also a small concession area to purchase food/drinks during intermission.

If you haven’t had a chance to get out and see a performance there, I definitely recommend going!

Taken from Theatre Alive:

"This superb example of the British farce had them rolling in the aisles in London and New York. John Smith is your ordinary London cab driver. He owns his own car, sets his own hours, is hard working, punctual and lives a very ordinary life...with the exception of his two wives, Mary and Barbara. Complication is piled upon complication as the cabby tries to keep his double life from exploding. Run for Your Wife is a fast paced, slapstick, laugh a minute romp that leaves you in stitches and begging for more."
