Reflections of 2025

As the countdown begins, I made a little collage to reflect back on this year. Intentionally, I took flight more often from social media and begun to cultivate a new existence outside of screens.

It wasn't about the gigantic steps in 2025...it was teensy tiny ones with a lot of fumbling along the way.

The hats that I wore in work and play altered in unexpected ways, but I remained what many still call me ("a muse").

My little support nook was of course an extra heartbeat to keep momentum when life got really rough (thank you)and I hope our connections continue to grow in 2026.

Celebrating 75 Years of Magic at the Chimczuk Museum!

Wow it's been a moment since I have been able to sit down at the computer here - so hello again to my followers, I hope you've been doing well!

On Saturday, October 25, 2025,  The Windsor Magic Circle Ring 116 celebrated 75 years of magic!

The Windsor Magic Circle is a local magic club. It is affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Magicians, as Ring 116. Members (16 yrs +) are from the Windsor-Essex County area of South Western Ontario in Canada. Talents range from beginner to full-time professional magical entertainers.

From now until March 2026, you can stop by many of the displays inside the Chimczuk Museum (401 Riverside Dr. East) that showcase past and current members. You can also view historical artifacts.

We had some awesome Close-up and Parlour Magic performances from current WMC members: Bill Nuvo, Brad Toulouse, Eric Bedard, Wilfred Gardner, Michel Lejeune & Tim Bailey.

You can check out the video footage that Bill did below

The Windsor Jr. Magic Circle (run by Elizabeth) had a great day as well. She made balloon animals, performed magic and handed out lots of fun goodies for everyone who stopped by. She even made wands for the kids!

For anyone who is interested in magic (under 16 years of age),  you can register for classes in 2026 (March to October dates to be announced on Seminole Library website) or contact Elizabeth for more details: windsorjrmagicclub@gmail.com

Let's Taco 'Bout It: The Grand Cantina

After a very busy day, I had the sudden craving for tacos...We all know that when a craving hits, it must be satisfied!

Passing by many times, but never stopping in, it was finally the night we would go to The Grand Cantina;  a wonderful Mexican-inspired restaurant in the heart of Walkerville, here in Windsor, Ontario Canada.

Opening the door, you are hit with vibrant colours from all angles and there is a real warmth to the space.  There is a lot of beautiful Mexican folk art decor too.

Although we didn't make a reservation, we lucked out as they always save a few tables for walk-ins. Our server was very friendly and the menu had a lot of variety, along with the drink selection, if you partake in boozy beverages.

There were so many taco options to choose from. I had a little anxiety about ordering anything that might be too spicy as that is always an issue with certain cuisine and I wouldn't be able to enjoy.

We decided to go for the Taco Tuesday - Mix and Match your pack, which was the following:

Carnitas - shredded smoked pork, pico de gallo, lettuce and salsa verde.

Los Pollos Hermanos - citrus brined grilled chicken, pico de gallo and avocado.

Veganville - tempura fried smoked tofu, pico de gallo, pickled red onion, vegan aioli and corn chip dust.

Bill had never had a churro before, that was our chosen dessert.

The tacos were so delicious and flavourful. The tortillas were filled generously. Everything tasted so fresh and our bellies were happy. Churros were soft and tender on the inside with a nice crispy crunch on the outside, dipped generously in the house sweet salted caramel sauce.

I think we've found our new favourite spot for tacos! Oh and if they are full and you didn't make a reservation, no worries, they also got you covered with pick-up or delivery options.

A Rockin’ Symphony Experience: WSO: The Music of ABBA with Jeans n’ Classics

It was an unexpected delight to enjoy an evening here in Windsor at the Chrysler Theatre with the WSO (Windsor Symphony Orchestra - Geoffrey Larson as the conductor ) and Jeans n’ Classics. They were paying homage to one of my favourite all time bands, ABBA. Balcony seats were perfect for a great view.

Photo before the show.
No camera/video recording allowed.

The large glittery disco ball set the stage and it was exciting to see the WSO performers getting ready with their instruments. The lead vocal performers of Jeans n Classics were all powerhouses and had enough shimmer and sass to share their own heartfelt renditions of ABBA songs throughout the decades.

Many songs were played from the vast ABBA catalogue that were and probably still are on people’s playlists like Mamma Mia, Super Trouper and Waterloo. It was beautiful to hear Chiquitita, I Have A Dream, SOS, and The Winner Takes It All, especially with the orchestral touches that just elevated the whole experience.

Were there songs that didn’t get played? Of course! Bill would have loved to hear his favourite; The Visitors and for me, definitely Angel Eyes.

Of course, you couldn’t possibly end an ABBA show without Dancing Queen! One of the most popular and crowd-pleasing hits from the band which got everyone up singing and dancing – some even in the aisle on the main floor.

The only thing left to say is Thank you for the music! 🎶

It Takes A Village: ACT Presents RENT at the Capitol Theatre

ACT's 2024 visionary production of RENT from Director Chris Rabideau, Assistant Director Cristina Orlando, Marketing & Costume Manager Moya McAlister, Costume Designer Valentine Yaghoubzadeh, and Musical Director Alde Calcagong is one that will be on the hearts and minds of everyone for years to come.

Set in the East Village of New York City, RENT is the story of a group of bohemian young artists and musicians who are struggling to survive another day, and faced with grappling reality of the HIV/AIDS epidemic as well as their own mortality.

The show was fantastic delving into so many important themes that are often overlooked. There is such an awareness of who each character is and how they navigate the world.

Highlights for me:

👉Tom (Tony Coates) and Angel (Mann Maniquis) Their love felt so unshakeable.  I also loved to see the vulnerability that was slowly revealed from Roger (Kyle Cloutier) and Mimi (Marcela Garzaro) as they both gave such strong performances together and solo.

👉The artistic expression of "Over the Moon" from Maureen (Alaina Kerr) was incredibly intense. I also loved Joanne's (Kianna Porter) empowering self in the song, "Take Me or Leave Me". Mark (Ian Macdonald) who may seem like the odd one of the bunch, felt like he belonged without a hitch, hitting the high notes especially in "What You Own". Benny (Deves Matwawana) who could be seen as the antagonist, really shone in the song "You'll See."

👉Songs under the direction of Vocal Director, Christine Chemello like "Another Day", "Without You" , "La Vie Boheme", "Seasons of Love", and "I'll Cover You" were sung with such passion, as the lyrics touch the souls of anyone who hears them. RENT comes with every emotion that someone may experience on a continuous pendulum that we call life, from feelings of hope, anger, sadness, grief, acceptance and of course, love.

👉Adding in was a perfect flow of dance sequences from Technical Dance Director Leslie McCurdy, guest choreographer Bryan Hindle, and Assisted Choreographers Tiffany Chan, Bella Mancina, and Simone Orlando. It really heightened the level of emotional depth through the art of movement and storytelling.

👉Let's not forget the ensemble cast either who filled the stage with heart-warming performances and vocals from long-time art supporter, singer and actress Kristen Essery, first timer on stage Jalen Hamilton, another welcoming stage debut of Ally Nguyen and more!

👉There were little nuances to keep your eyes on from the large video screens, thanks to the incredible  video content team from Gene Schilling, Mitchell Branget, and full disclosure, my husband Bill Dileva was brought on to this amazing show. It had bold messages and captivating visuals. Another added touch were the balloons that made appearances throughout the show that held their own significance. The rest I shall not spoil.

The message that RENT left me with is this: Even if we're all on borrowed time, a simple act of love can be transformative. While it also comes with heartbreak, it still reminds us of our humanity. Love ignites friendships we never thought we'd have that become like family. It brings us new lovers that might carry baggage, but will also help us with ours. It closes some doors but opens others where we no longer have to hide in the shadows and can finally be seen for who we really are.

Bon Voyage: Harbour House Date Night

We had a great date night at the Harbour House, located at 9550 Riverside Drive East, here in Windsor, Ontario.

Making a reservation online was simple and since it was quite a warm evening out, dining inside was our preference. Arriving, we were greeted and seated promptly. There was nice view of the outdoor patio and marina. Definitely a very relaxed atmosphere and we had some fun entertainment before our meal arrived from our friend Eric, who we came out to see. He provides magical table-side services to all patrons - you can find him there from 5-8 pm on Monday evenings!

Our waitress was very accommodating and friendly throughout our meal. She told us right off the bat that she was a newbie. If you've ever worked in any capacity of customer service, including the food industry, it can have its challenges, but there was nothing negative to report, as she was lovely.

Current menu:

Bill had HH's well-known "Smash Burger" with fries and gravy. The burger was delicious and he especially loved the bacon jam, which elevated the flavour. The only complaint, there was a very small amount of fries in the basket, and so needed to order an extra side.

I ordered the Cobb Salad with buttermilk ranch dressing on the side, which was fantastic. Romaine, grilled chicken, shredded cheese, pickled beets, crumbled bacon, tomatoes and a few slices of hard-boiled eggs.

By the time this blog goes up, Bill will have sailed off to the East Coast to perform, and so this was a lovely way to enjoy each other's company until his return.

Definitely recommend checking out Harbour House.
