Dash Multi-Mini Waffle Maker Review: How Do You Waffle?

"Brinner" breakfast for dinner, has become quite an enjoyable time in our household. I don't think there should ever be set rules for when something should be eaten. Do what makes your tummy happy. So after making delicious stacks of pancakes usually on weekends, sometimes for a good start to the day and other times, a nice way to start the evening, it was time to try waffles!

I cannot believe how many waffle makers are on the market! Prices ranged from $40 to *gulp* over $1000.  I like a quality product that is easy to use and gives me the results desired, plus a good price is always on my mind - frugal shopper here!

Dash's Multi-Mini Waffle Maker fit my wish-list of what I wanted in a waffle maker! The size was perfect too, as our kitchen area is small and so it fits well in our appliance drawer, without taking up a ton of space.

After making waffles several times now, here are my honest thoughts below!

Gluten-free waffles made with Dash Multi-Mini Waffle Maker

Here is Bill pouring the batter into the waffle maker!

PROS

✔No complicated instructions; plug in, pour batter and close the lid

✔As you can see from the photo, it has a great drip-channel feature to control any overflow of batter

✔4 mini waffles are made in approximately 5-6 minutes! (depending on how crispy you like them)

✔Nonstick surface made without PFOA

✔Easy to clean once cooled with a damp cloth

Cons:

❌Would love if this plate was fully removable, so you could insert other waffle shapes, as Dash has so many cute ones to choose from.

Feasting And Frolicking At Biltmore Estate

Photo from our 6th floor room.  All photos by: Melissa Arditti

The next morning, we were up early and ready to start another exciting day.

Heading downstairs, I contemplated what I would have for breakfast. After such an amazing meal the previous night at The Bistro, I was still quite full. Our server started talking about the breakfast buffet and so when “smoked salmon” was heard, my dad said “I’ll have the buffet!” Tempted, but not hungry enough to make it worth our while, my mom and I ordered off the menu.

So we had an egg-white artichoke quiche, which was so flavourful and light. I really like the idea of using egg-whites as opposed to the whole egg, at times. I chose hash browns as my side and my mom substituted the carbs for grilled tomatoes.

Entering, this is what you have to look forward to as a “morning” view in the dining room.  Formal yet relaxed.

Here is the buffet. Take your pick. There’s smoked salmon, fresh fruit, sausages, bacon, yogurt, waffles, an omelette station and freshly-baked sweet treats galore. I’d consider this “brunch” for sure.

My favourite photo that we’re going to get framed of my parents in the beautiful Biltmore lobby, as we were waiting to find out when the next shuttle bus would arrive.

After breakfast, we took the shuttle bus to the Estate Gardens again. Rain was in the forecast and so it was a short trip, but still lovely as ever, as you can see.

Heading back, we went for a late lunch and attempted to eat light with 2 chopped salads and a cobb salad. Portions were great, everything was fresh with mixed greens, corn, and I just love broccolini! We were fortunate to be able to have lunch with Leann Donnelly and she shared with us more about the history of Biltmore and her love of Biltmore’s twist on a grilled cheese sandwich.

One thing that is quite special here is the afternoon tea. Unfortunately, I didn't realize it was going to be starting shortly after we had our lunch. There was no way I could eat another bite, but it is surely something to try out on a future visit with such a selection of high quality loose leaf teas, scones and sandwiches, just like they do in England.

Dinner time, my dad tried a bison burger for the first time. He didn't have it with a bun or any toppings (sure, now’s the time to eat light!) so I don’t have a photo to share because it was just a piece of meat on a plate with a side salad, as he requested. However, he said it was very different than regular cow beef, and significantly lighter. So a nice switch once in a while.

I was feeling a tad English after emailing my best friend from the UK and telling him all about my adventures of the day. So I had fish and chips (minus the chips, I asked for grilled vegetables).

My mom tried the grilled tuna which she enjoyed a lot. It is meant to be medium-rare, so that was something new to learn. On the side were some tasty zucchini sticks.

As we were eating, we heard some lovely music from this modern elegant trio!

To end our amazing stay at Biltmore, we tried the creme bruele with a biscotti. We shared just one. Perfect amount of sweetness, I loved the subtle burnt caramel flavour and the biscotti was made to dip into the rich and creamy custard.

Windsor Ontario Restaurant Review: Breakfast At Tiffany’s

The inviting exterior of Tiffany’s Diner fronting Howard Avenue.

There’s nothing like a good, wholesome breakfast to start the day. Tiffany’s Diner, located at 2883 Howard Avenue, is a cozy, little breakfast nook that has a retro-inspired nostalgic charm, paying particular homage to the film Breakfast at Tiffany’s, starring the chic and sassy Audrey Hepburn.

The interior of Tiffany’s is inviting and tastefully decorated, augmented with the namesake lights.

Let me say that customer service makes or breaks a restaurant. If you think that you can get away with lousy service, you’re sadly mistaken. I've worked in customer service related jobs and, even though that pesky phrase the customer is always right makes others cringe, any successful business owner knows that showing a little respect to an unsatisfied customer goes a long way.

There are always exceptions of course, but most of the time, people are not inherently out to get you and will kindly accept an apology and some sort of incentive. Word-of-mouth travels faster than any other means of communication so, if you don’t intend to train your staff well, be prepared to have a for lease sign ready when patrons no longer visit your establishment.

I am so impressed when an owner goes out of their way to make things right. This is exactly what occurred after the owner Kelley McDermid of Tiffany’s found out that my boyfriend, Bill Nuvo, and his daughter were unsatisfied with their experience.

Being absent due to illness that day, she was only going by what Bill recalled, but still treated him with the utmost respect. The issues were dealt with – mainly the waitress’ complete inattentiveness the entire time and a pea meal bacon disappearance and she insisted on breakfast on the house next time we were all available.

Instead of making excuses, that would obviously not win anyone back for another meal, she was genuinely interested in a second shot. I have to give props for that kind of customer service as it was the complete opposite of a previous restaurant, we had visited as first timers. We received a lack-lustre response from management and, quite frankly, a brush-off with no indication that our business was valued to them. Thus my money is spent elsewhere now.

So, bright-eyed and bushy tailed, we ventured back to Tiffany’s Diner and enjoyed a relaxing and tasty meal with friendly hospitality; exactly what you would think to find when walking into the diner.

Hydration is surely needed in this weather, so big glasses of water and an extra container for refills were set at our table.

I had the “Rise and Shine” breakfast. Delicious fried eggs, crispy bacon and rye toast with fresh homemade strawberry/rhubarb jam. It had a nice blend of tartness and sweetness. A little goes a long way.

You won’t find my boyfriend eating eggs anytime soon, but that’s nothing against the restaurant. He is not an egg-person at all. However, he was very satisfied with a heaping amount of home fries and three juicy sausages (he added the ketchup) that will surely keep his energy going today.

Jordyn had an egg/cheese and ham sandwich on an English muffin with home fries. I couldn’t take the picture fast enough, as she delved right into it.

The egg sandwich on an English muffin with ham and cheese was devoured shortly after this photo was taken.

Running a restaurant is not easy by any means, but being in business for 2 years and going strong, Tiffany’s Diner is doing something right. Talking to Kelly after our breakfast, she truly puts blood, sweat and tears into the diner and strives to make people happy. She loves her regular customers and welcome newbies in to experience affordable, fresh and local food here in our great city of Windsor.

And I said what about Breakfast at Tiffany’s? She said, “I think I remember the place, and as I recall, I think, we all kinda liked it.” And for breakfast, “Well, that’s the one place we’ve got.” (song lyrics adjusted from the original hit Breakfast at Tiffany’s by Deep Blue Something)

Update: Sadly, no longer in business!
