The Carrousel of the Nations began this weekend here in downtown Windsor, Ontario! It’s one of my favourite events, celebrating and highlighting the diversity of cultures in our region. After a day of on-and-off showers, the rain finally managed to clear up and Bill and I went to see the last performance of the night; Ray Parker Jr. Admission was only $5 per person and let me tell you, it was worth every penny!
I can honestly say that i’m not usually a huge fan of jazz, funk or soul music, but I have definitely found a new appreciation for this style of music. There is something about Ray that makes every man want to be him and every woman want to be WITH him!
The playlist was excellent including hits such as: Mr. Telephone Man, A Woman Needs Love Just Like You Do, The Other Woman, of course the infamous Ghostbusters theme song and more! Accompanying him on stage, his band was fantastic and added another level to the show.
A performer is one who has the capacity to connect and interact with their audience, and Ray certainly proved that by engaging everyone in the crowd and harmlessly flirting with his female fans, while even bringing up three ladies on stage. At times, Ray looked like he was truly getting lost in the moment with the subtle movements with his guitar solos. His soulful presence was felt throughout the whole show which lasted an incredible 1 1/2 hours (approx) and even though there was a slight distraction of fireworks coming across from the river, it was nothing but sparks on stage!
So when there’s something strange in your neighbourhood, who you gonna call? RAY PARKER JR!
