If The Shoe Fits

Platforms, cross-trainers, flats, heels, peep-toe, loafers, wedges, and stilettos; all these different types of shoes make my head spin. We’ve all gone shopping for that perfect shoe, whether it’s for a casual outing or for a formal event, but maybe you’re like me and dread the experience.

Unlike clothes, where you can take them into a seamstress, (especially with pants, where you put them on, and they fit awesome, until you lift up your top to see how your butt looks) and realize that annoying but inevitable gap at the back, no matter what size you try on.

However, it’s not that easy when it comes to shoes.Trust me. I have spent hours in shoe stores, exhausting sales people trying on shoe after shoe. A quote that I’ve always related to was from Cher’s character in the movie Clueless:  "You see how picky I am about my shoes, and they only go on my feet!"

It’s important to realize that you don’t have to give up style entirely, no matter what issue you have with your feet. Although those sexy and extremely high heels that you see everyone wearing look aesthetically-pleasing, be cautious about wearing them all the time because, down the road, your feet will not be happy and you’ll be visiting a podiatrist in no time.

If that is the case, I would highly recommend going to see Foot Care Institute here in Windsor. They are compassionate and well-educated professionals, specializing in diagnosis and treatment, as well as preventative care for a variety of foot-related problems.

So yes, it’s a sad reality, but for you there are other options to get every-day fashion and comfort all in one. I’ll tell you about a great store that I purchase from that you’ll definitely want to check out.

It’s not here in Windsor, but only a hop, skip, and a jump over to our neighbours in the US. So, if you have a passport, you’ll have to add this to your list of places to shop.

Footwear Footcare, run by brothers Paul and David Tomlinson, in Warren, MI, specialize in fitting people who suffer from a variety of medical issues, and offer sizes that your average shoe stores do not carry.

Footwear’s huge catalogue of men and women’s shoes has something for everyone, and if there’s a style that you see, and they don’t have it in stock, they’ll be happy to order it for you.

With highly knowledgeable staff, they know what works, what doesn't, and will spend as much time as needed to find a shoe that you’ll love and will leave others wanting to follow in your footsteps.
